Acupuncture For Headaches

At Dove Healing we offer non-surgical, non-medicinal methods for effectively treating headache patients in the Cleveland and Chattanooga, TN area.

Headaches fall into three main categories:

  • Tension-type – This type is most common and usually is associated with mild to moderate pain on both sides of the head.  The pain is often described as a pressure or squeezing sensation.
  • Migraine – This type is far less frequent than the tension headache, and usually lasts for a shorter period of time.  However the pain is usually much more severe.  Often, migraine headaches affect women more than men and can be so severe that they lead to nausea, loss of appetite, blurred vision, and even vomiting.
  • Cervicogenic – This is a type more recently classified that centers around musculoskeletal problems. They may be caused by neck, back, or spinal pain.  Because of their newer classification, these can often go untreated in typical medical scenarios.

Results from a number of studies suggest that acupuncture often reduces the frequency of tension headaches and prevent migraine headaches.

How Acupuncture can help with headaches and migraines

One of the earliest uses of acupuncture was to help alleviate headaches.  Over the centuries that acupuncture has been in use it has been found to help with a wide variety of headaches within the types listed above.

Not only can acupuncture relieve or reduce headaches and migraines, the can also help to prevent them.  One of the biggest causes of headaches is stress, and acupuncture has been show to greatly reduce stress in many patients.

Headache Treatment without chemicals or side effects

One of the best advantages of acupuncture over other treatment methods is that it does virtually no harm with no real chance of long term side effects. Some medications may have serious side effects and are developed with synthetic chemical compounds.  The procedures for treating headaches are much less invasive with acupuncture than with surgery.  As with any ailment you should consult your primary physician, but acupuncture can often help alleviate migraines and headaches.
